As well as promoting the reinstatement proposals and the benefits reconnecting communities will achieve, we seek to understand community concerns and questions so the Peaks and Dales Line Ltd project team are aware of how best to develop their proposals for the communities the line will serve and those that will benefit from the rail reinstatement.
For too long, road vehicles have dominated the landscape of the Peak District National Park, with around 85% of 13-26 million annual visitors arriving by car.
Any promotion of the Peak District and the National Park immediately results in more and more cars on the road.
This number of vehicles doesn't include commuters and journeys from the North West to East Midlands that pass through this sensitive landscape.
Our volunteers are mostly just like you, we live in the communities the line will serve, we maybe someone who would benefit from the line being reinstated or we have an interest in the success of the project.
We have all committed our time to support the campaign and as members we get to hear and share information first hand from the Peaks and Dales Line Ltd team.
We are the link to the communities and as members, we pay a small membership fee to support the work of the campaign - this includes insurance to protect us when we are volunteering and things like printing and the website maintenance.
Each month we have a members meeting, which is attended by a representative of Peaks and Dales Line Ltd, where updates on the project are shared. This meeting enables us to raise questions, concerns, updates etc with the project team as well as plan any future campaign activites.
Our current meetings are held alternately in Buxton and Matlock.
